Volunteering at Move Zanzibar is much more than a trip—it’s an opportunity to become part of a vibrant community, share your skills, learn from a different culture, and contribute to the growth of local children and young people.
Whether you’re teaching English, helping with daily activities, supporting our acrobatics program, or simply spending time with the children, your presence can make a lasting impact.
At the same time, you’ll experience the authentic rhythm of life in Zanzibar, build meaningful friendships, and create memories that will stay with you forever.
Daily Schedule
Volunteer activities take place Monday to Friday.
Morning
8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Every volunteer contributes according to their skills, interests, and experience. Typical activities include:
- Supporting our daily community activities.
- Teaching basic English to children and teenagers.
- Assisting during acrobatics and recreational activities.
- Helping organize educational workshops and creative projects.
- Supporting local schools as an assistant teacher (optional).
- Assisting at the village clinic (for volunteers with relevant experience or interest).
- Helping with cleaning, organization, and the daily life of the community center.
No two days are exactly the same, and every volunteer becomes part of the Move Zanzibar family.
Afternoon
4:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Afternoons are dedicated to activities at the Move Zanzibar Community Center, including acrobatics training, games, movement sessions, creative workshops, and time spent with the children and young people in our program
Saturday & Sunday
Jogging Club – 6:30 AM
You’re welcome to join our morning jogging sessions alongside members of the local community. Participation is completely optional.
Saturday Community Show
Every Saturday afternoon, Move Zanzibar hosts an open community performance for the entire village called Saturday Show – 4.30 PM
Length of Stay
We welcome volunteers for stays between:
2 weeks and 6 months
Longer stays allow volunteers to build stronger relationships with the children and have a greater impact on the community.
Accommodation & Costs
Volunteers stay in accommodation arranged by Move Zanzibar.
The contribution is:
€25 per day
This includes:
- Accommodation
- Breakfast
The accommodation is about 2 km from the community center, just a 5-minute ride by tuk-tuk or motorbike.
The house includes:
- Four bedrooms
- Two rooms with private bathrooms
- Two rooms with a shared bathroom
- Fans in every room
- A fully equipped kitchen
- A shared living room
Volunteers are responsible for:
- Flights
- Visa
- Personal expenses
- Travel insurance (recommended)
Your contribution helps support both your stay and the ongoing activities of the community center.
